Celebrating British Pie Week 2026

AVE are Celebrating British Pie Week 2026

From March 2nd to 8th, the UK celebrates its ultimate comfort food: the British Pie. Whether you’re a fan of a flaky Steak and Ale or a classic Cottage, this week is all about honouring the pastry-clad heroes of our plates.

The “True Pie” Debate

In the world of the British Pie Awards, a “true” pie must be fully encased in pastry. That means those delicious “stews with hats” (puff pastry lids) or potato-topped Shepherd’s pies don’t technically make the cut—though they’re still welcome at our dinner table!

So we’ve created a few recipes with our care residents in mind to add a touch of nostalgia to celebrate a true British classic, and we’ve thrown in some Mediterranean influence and of course a sweet option too. We’ve even added some tips to ensure that the pies can be safely modified for dysphagia sufferers

  • The Local Hero: Classic Cottage Pie but with a nutrient-dense root vegetable mash
  • Pie & Mash: Celebrate with Shortcrust Steak & Ale, best served with creamy mash
  • The Bake-Off: Caramelised apples with honey & blackberries topped with a twice-baked crumble.
  • Mediterranean Flavours: Paper-thin pastry with wilted spinach and crumbled Greek Feta
